My name is Patrick. I’m a 22 year old social sciences student in the UK.
I’m running for my university’s Union Executive Elections as Communications and Internal Affairs Officer.
I can always use help on my campaign if you’re studying at Leeds. If you’re not you can always give me ideas but no material endorsement as it would be deemed inappropriate. The role involves representing the Union in the media both within the University and externally as well as working with permanent staff to ensure the Union is effectively managed and run.
I think my skills in media and business mesh well with the requirements of the role. Over the last four years of studying, including an Erasmus year, I’ve had a great range of experiences: from my work in the Alumni office, membership of the LGBT society, mentoring of first year students, time spent in the Leeds University OTC, to activities such as the Politics society. There are always more activities to get involved in here and that’s one of the great things about our University.
I’m happy to say that part of my role would be to learn about some of the amazing things we do and work to see how the Union can support these activites better.
If you agree with the positions I’ve begun to outline below, I would very much value your support. If you have any interest in getting involved to help my campaign, I would love to hear from you.
***Manifesto***
* Improve governance of the Union – ensure that student representatives and assembly chairs are obliged to proactively seek students’ views.
* Ensure Exec policies are implemented – working with the rest of the team to be responsive to your needs through working together with the University and the local community.
* Fight the rising personal cost of University. You shouldn’t have to bear the full costs.
* Improve outreach to members on how to go about house hunting - earlier is not better.
* Encourage the adoption of alcohol-free society socials
* Champion opportunities for more contact hours

I read a lot about economics and business but I can never escape the draw of a good Biology story. I’m a news junkie, which can either be seen as a good thing or rather as a drawback in that I am, for some reason, compelled to find out what’s currently happening across the world, have a center-left leaning political philosophy, but find my beliefs constantly challenged by what I read. At one moment I decry my lefty convictions then am subsequently appalled by the belligerence and blasé attitude of the centre-right.
Anybody who speaks good French and wants to exchange messages in sketchy franglais is of interest to me. I can always use help on my French.
I have an oddly mixed cultural heritage, having been born in Asia, lived in Seattle for most of my childhood and then moved to Birmingham UK from the age of about ten. I really enjoy travelling though I don’t do it nearly enough, and though have I found moving and leaving friends rather difficult, I think it makes you stronger in the long run: you discover who you truly are because you are forced to develop and maintain your own personality.
If you have any questions about me, email me! My contact details are at the bottom of every page, and also here.
