Just deserts? Seal Hunters in Danger

April 19th, 2007 § 4

Hunters in the annual seal massacre that has a quota for killing 270,000 seals per year in north east Canada have over the last couple days become stranded and cut off from aid because of forceful ice flows and bad weather conditions. Perhaps it’s a message to stop killing wild animals? I hate the seal cull. Plus, calling it a ‘cull’ implies that there are somehow too many seals. There aren’t too many seals. They’ve only just recovered from the brink of extinction. How many animals must we kill just to allow for human overpopulation of the planet. I think this is ridiculous.

Indeed, we shall see Captain Ahab fouled in his own harpoon lines soon enough, soon enough, I do believe…

I wouldn’t want to wish anything like this on anyone, but it does seem rather ironic. It’s not like they’re farming seals or anything: just going out and killing live ones seems one of the most brutal things one could do, so I don’t have nearly as much sympathy for these guys as someone else caught in the same situation, like a normal fisherman. It’s the way it’s done. …and of course you know my views on whaling, so a MD reference is rather appropriate!

I may not speak French, but I have been paying attention! :D :D:D

Not much of a hunter though, if they can go up to defenceless baby seals and whack them on the head to kill them. Barbaric. http://www.hsus.org/protect_seals.html is a link for us all to protest to the canadian government…
