An Atlanta based artist called Larry Jens Anderson has designed a series of ‘Gay Merit Badges’ in reaction to the US Supreme Court ruling allowing discrimination against gays in clubs such as the Boy Scouts. With badges such as ‘Flaming Faggot’, ‘Size Queen’, Pansy, Pussy and Fag Stag (?), the Badges mock the idea of discrimination based on sexual orientation by mocking the derogatory names that people (including members of the gay community) use to describe fellow citizens.
They’re large badges, measuring, according to the site, ‘140 x 125 cm’, though I’m guessing that they meant to type that as mm. A metre and a half size ‘Fairy’ badge would be kind of weird somehow. That doesn’t stop me really wanting it though!
