Everyone seems to love Jennifer Lopez and those that don’t only have a mild ambivalence. Is it because she crosses so many genres, because she has fantastic (if a little over the top) style, because of her dancing and hot music or simply because she’s beautiful? I think one of the most interesting things about her, why so many people can relate, is because she doesn’t stick to one style of music and isn’t solely a female body to accompany the thug-rappers that are so prevalent in R&B music today. She’s got a playlist on iTunes USA that’s as revealing as one can get through just seven songs. Perhaps it was created by a PR helper, but if this list is actually something she might have chosen, it’s interesting because the range from the soulful Sade, the much more funky and rap inspired ‘Hypnotize’ by The Notorious B.I.G., then to much more pop-contemporary sound of ‘This Love by Maroon 5. It looks, in a way, like a rather confused list, but in being so it’s really indicative of how wide ranging Jennifer Lopez is in her sound and influences.
- Superstar – Luther Vandross
- Drop It Like It’s Hot – Snoop Dog & Pharell Williams
- This Love – Maroon 5
- Lean Back – Terror Squad
- I Want You Now – Depeche Mode
- Hypnotize – The Notorious B.I.G.
- No Ordinary Love – Sade
“These are all beautiful songs in their own way. I love all different kinds of music.” – JLo
