Hotel Fox: Switching rooms, swapping styles

Volkswagen was launching its new car in Copenhagen (Denmark) earlier this year. Unimpressed by the offerings of accomodation for hundreds of journalists bound to swamp the city for the presentation of the Volkswagen Fox, the company came upon a spark gimmick to set itself apart from the rest.
The company took over a local hotel, and with the help of 21 artists from around the world, they completely redecorated all the 61 rooms in the building. The catch is that each room is different. So if you’re after a manor house, Mackintosh syle room you can have it, while the room next door might be a manga filled, sports orientated camping themed oblivion of retro styling. What you end up with is pure luck; but whatever you get will be sure to be different from anywhere else you’ve ever been before.

  1. Well what a shameless yet innovative way of selling a product! And just how much money does all this renovating cost? It just goes to show how much money a company like Volkswagen can make if their product it advertised properly. Loved the article!

  2. I know. shameless, but so much FUN anyway. Right?! Glad you liked it!
I’d been saving that article for ages until I had enough enthusiasm to write about it properly instead of just going ‘blurgh: here’s a link’ kind of thing; tell me it was worth the wait? please?

  3. It WAS worth the wait Patrick!
I loved the article [both yours and the original in the Grauniad] as well, but hey, you obviously need a bit of an ego massage today, so I will oblige – as always.
